Qualifications

Usually, a high school diploma is required to become a Dental Assistant, and may require some vocational training or job-related course work. In some cases, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree could be needed.

Cost of Education and Training

There is no specific educational requirement to be a Dental Assistant. However, employers often prefer applicants with a high school diploma particularly if one is applying in a health institution. High school education would normally range from P25,000 to P40,000 per year in private universities and about P3,000 to P5,000 in public institutions.

Propects for Career Advancement

Without further education, advancement opportunities are limited. Some Dental Assistants become Office Managers, Dentalassisting instructors, or Dental product Sales Representatives. Others go back to school to become Dental Hygienists. For many, this entry-level occupation provides basic training and experience and serves as a stepping stone to more highly skilled and higher paying jobs.
