As the annual event goes online, the Labor Day job fair recorded a significant increase in the number of participating jobseekers when it drew 83,221 Filipinos looking for work despite the pandemic.
This figure is 136% more than the last face-to-face job fair in 2019, when only 35,242 attended the yearly affair. This may be attributed to the accessibility of the event as jobseekers can already participate in the comfort of their homes.
As reported by the DOLE Regional Offices, 30,055 of the jobseekers registered for the event qualified for the posted vacancies. Of that number, 3,970 were hired-on-the-spot (HOTS).
Meanwhile, 4,578 jobseekers were reported as near-hires—applicants considered hired but lacked requirements and/or still need to submit additional documents. Near-hires may need to undergo further interviews or exams to fully qualify for the job.
Another 1,433 of the applicants were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for skills training, 363 were referred to the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns for livelihood assistance, and 996 were referred to the Department of Trade and Industry for business opportunities.
Six hundred sixty-six employers participated in the event, bringing in 53,788 local and overseas job vacancies.
The online event was made possible through the help of DOLE’s online platform partners: Mynimo.com, Jobstreet.com, Workbank, Vantagehunt.com, and jobquest.com.
The labor department is set to conduct another online Job and Business Fair on 12 June 2021 on the occasion of the 123rd anniversary of the Philippine Independence.
